3KCBWDAY1 - Color Lovers

I am taking part of Eskimimi Makes 3rd annual knitting and crochet blog week

T
opic of the day: 3KCBWDAY1 Color Lovers

Color is one of our greatest expressions of ourselves when we choose to knit or crochet, so how do you choose what colors you buy and crochet or knit with. Have a look through your stash and see if there is a predominance of one color. Do the same with your finished projects - do they match? Do you love a rainbow of bright hues, or more subdued tones. How much attention do you pay to the original color that a garment is knit in when you see a pattern? Tell readers about your love or confusion over color.

I LOVE color. The brighter and louder the better. It speaks to my personality, I am a fast talking, loud mouth Latina from New York City. So it is only natural that I like to be surrounded by color.

I have never paid too much attention to the yarn colors that I buy. When I go to the yarn store I just grab whatever color catches my eye. But for the purpose of this blog post I decided that I will pull out some of my most recent purchases.

It looks like blue is the color that I am currently gravitating to. Though I must say if I look at some of my completed projects it will say something totally different. It will say that I like red a little too much since I have completed four projects where the color of the yarn is red or predominantly red.

But now that I have started spinning and dyeing my own yarn, I have had my mind more on color and not just satisfying the need for more yarn. I recently completed my first spinning/dyeing project which I blogged about here. Here is a picture:

Of course my first handmade yarn had to be red! It just would not have been right if it were not.

Tell me, what colors dominate your yarn stash? How do you pick your colors? I would love to know.

Until next time, Happy Knitting!

  1. I love yarn so i generally gravitate towards anything that has color even the browns and creams are color to me... I just feel the yarn and make my decision based on it.

    1. I tend to use the earth/natural tones when I am making stuff for other people. I love how the projects turn out in those colors but for some reason when it comes for stuff for me I end up on the other end of the color spectrum. :-)

  2. That is a beautiful red you've spun and dyed! I think sometimes stashes can be misleading... like mine will sometimes contain a lot of one color because I might currently be working on a large project that requires a lot of yarn, where as the color of one of my smaller projects might better reflect me.

    1. Thank you! That is true. Right now I have a lot of white yarn and blue yarn, they are each for two different sweater projects that I am working on but anyone that sees them with out know what they are for would think I love those colors.
