The Problem with Pei

Pattern: Pei
Designer: Michele Wang
Pattern book: The LOFT Collection: Fall/Winter 2011
Yarn: My Hand Dyed Yarn
Needles: Size 5 Circular Knit Pick's needle
Pattern Rating: 4 out of 5 due to curling

This is my first ever Cowl. I wanted to make something simple with pretty stitches to show off my hand dyed yarn. When I saw Pei at my local yarn store I knew this was the pattern for my yarn. It was a very simple pattern and it knitted up very quickly. It took my five days to make it and that was only because I would knit in small bursts as my work schedule has been super busy.

I made only one change to the pattern and that was that I did not make the "Nupps" those things are a pain in the neck and in my opinion do not add much to the pattern. When I do make this pattern again, I will be adding beads to where the Nupps would be.

Now on to the problem with Pei. It curls, oh man does it curl. I really had to work hard on the placement of the Cowl on the picture above and even then I had to hurry up and take the photo because it was beginning to curl. You can even see in the photo how the ends where already curling.

I saw on Ravelry that I am not the only one with the curling problem. So I need to read some of the project notes made by other people and find out if someone figured out a way to not make it curl so much because I plan on eventually making it again.

Here is a close up picture of the stitching and of the yarn color:

I do recommend this pattern for someone that wants an easy project to make with some pretty stitching. Just be warned that it the finish project tends to curl and the Nupps are a pain in the neck. But you can easily skip those without taking away from the project or adding beads where the Nupps would go.

Until next time, Happy Knitting!
